Viridor proceeds with £150m Cardiff incinerator

16 Aug 11 Waste management company Viridor has decided to press on with its controversial plans to build a £150m waste incinerator in Cardiff.

A statement by parent company Pennon Group this morning said that Viridor has “decided in principle to proceed with the financing, construction and operation of a 350,000 tonne energy from waste plant in Cardiff.  The new project will provide a robust and deliverable bid for Prosiect Gwrydd (Project Green), a South Wales local authority consortium residual waste procurement.”

Despite local objections, Cardiff council approved the plan in June 2010 and the Environment Agency granted the final permit required in November.
